A Caribbean Classic in the making

Defending champions Hurricane and Caribbean Classic won their semi-final matches in the 2007/2008 CTL-sponsored Portmore Domino league last Sunday when they defeated Eradication and Old Harbour United respectively at Caymanas Park.

Both will meet in the final at Caymanas Park on Sunday, May 18, starting at 11:00 a.m. Hurricane, who trailed Eradication by four points at half-time, came on strongly over the last 100 points to beat their opponents by 17 points (300-283). Caribbean Classic, on the other hand, drubbed Old Harbour United 300-249 in the other semi-final.

At stake in the final are $130,000 and a trophy to the winning team, while the runners-up will receive $80,000.

The third-place playoff between Eradication and Old Harbour United will also take place at Caymanas Park on May 18. The team finishing third will receive $50,000, fourth $30,000.

While the top two teams will have to wait another week to determine who will be champions, the focus will shift to the Senator Arthur Williams Trophy match tomorrow at Garveymeade Sports Club between Right Stuff and Eagle View, and ISCF vs Village Link for the Mayor of Portmore Trophy.

Both matches are scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m

.

The Eradication pair of Joseph Woolery and Noel Murray (both standing) simultaneously disarrange the dominoes after winning a game.
