Frome through to final

Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

BEN FRANCIS KO Cup champions Frome Technical lead Titchfield and Glenmuir into the daCosta Cup semi-finals where they will join already qualified Clarendon College.

Frome earned their berth with a 1-0 win over Bog Walk at Elliston Wakeland Centre while Titchfield defeated Denbigh 2-0 to follow Frome as the second team from Group Two into the semi-finals. Despite their big 5-1 win over Rusea's, Garvey Maceo were unable to secure a place in the semis as Glenmuir defeated Clarendon College 1-0 in the Clarendon derby.

After misfiring for most of the game, Frome were thankful that Rohan Watson found the back of the net from a rebound in the 59th minute against a Bog Walk team which was competent but powerless in front of goal. Four minutes later they had an excellent opportunity to go 2-0 up but Sedan McCreath kicked high from about eight yards out. Substitute Tavoy Grant was even worse as, within seconds of entering the field of play, he managed to miss a header from about four yards.

Played below par

Though Frome managed to pull off the win it was not one of their most fluent performances as, apart from defender Linval Wilson Jr and midfielder Obrian Woodbine, they played well below par. Woodbine, carrying a groin injury, did far less dribbling but gave an intelligent display as he involved his teammates in the game. The classy Kerick Samuels was a shadow of himself.

Bog Walk's Mario Francis, Sivan Thompson and Dwayne Lewin showed that they could dribble but need to be reminded that the end product of scoring is important.

"We were expecting to be in the final because we knew that if we drew the game we would be in the semi-finals .We are not concentrating on who we will meet, we just wanted to be in the semi-finals and we are there," a relaxed Boysie Nicholson, coach of Frome, said after the game.

Richard Haye of Bog Walk was disappointed with the result but proud of his players.

"I am proud of the boys but disappointed with the result because we wanted to reach the semi-finals. This is our second loss and I think we out did a lot of people's expectations. A lot of people never expected us to do this well," Haye said.
