Excelsior take girls'softball crown

EXCELSIOR GIRLS on Friday made the Jamaica Amateur Softball Association senior schoolgirls crown their own by beating joint defending champions Merl Grove 15-5 in the final played at St. Hugh's playing field.

Excelsior and Merl Grove shared the title last year after they were tied at 10-10 when bad light brought an abrupt end to the final.

However, there was no stopping Excelsior this time around as the Trudeau Francis-coached team put in a sterling performance to add the softball silverware to the Manning Cup won by their boys and the Captain's Bakery schoolgirl football crown they won earlier this year.

"My team came here to prove that we were the better team and they did just that," said Francis.

"What we did was prove that we are indeed the better team and should have been the only one defending the title this year," he added.
