Saint Cecelia Eyes Record

Two-time Horse of the Year SAINT CECELIA will attempt to equal the long-standing record of the 1996 Triple Crown winner and 'Horse of the Year' WAR ZONE at Caymanas Park tomorrow when she contests the Eileen Cliggott Memorial Trophy grade one feature over 1300 metres, a race she won last year.

SAINT CECELIA, who won a second consecutive 'Horse of the Year' award in 2012, makes her seasonal debut and is a howling 1-9 favourite to accomplish the feat.

WAR ZONE, who was trained by many-time champion trainer Wayne DaCosta for popular owner Edmund Thomas, won his first 12 races beginning in 1995 as a two-year-old. He duly won the 2000 Guineas, Derby and St Leger (Triple Crown) in 1996 and was installed favourite to complete a perfect season in the rich and prestigious Red Stripe Superstakes over 2000 metres in November of that year.

But 13 proved an unlucky number for WAR ZONE as despite the overwhelming support with Andrew Ramgeet aboard, he was beaten into third place by the Trinidadian horse ADORING GROOM (Brian Harding up) and PRINCE AKEEM.

Thereafter, WAR ZONE went on to establish himself as a top-class sprinter and was to become the first horse to earn in excess of $10 million in stakes.

Similar to WAR ZONE, the Spencer Chung-trained SAINT CECELIA was also a classic winner, having won the 1000 Guineas and the Jamaica Oaks in 2009 with Shane Ellis aboard. Ellis again has the ride aboard the illustrious daughter of Burning Marque-She's On Wheels.
