Unbeaten Denham Town, Pembroke Hall In Big Clash
Robert Bailey, Gleaner Writer
Leaders Denham Town, who are unbeaten, will be seeking their ninth consecutive victory when they face Pembroke Hall in today's feature game of the Hi-Lyte/Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Southern Conference Division One basketball competition. The match, which will be played at Edward Seaga Sports Complex, will commence at 7:30 p.m. In another game to be played simultaneously, Norman Gardens will oppose Panthers. In the two opening matches, starting at 6 p.m., Upper Room battle Aqua 'B' and Waterhouse Blazers entertain Link Up All Stars. The match between Denham Town and Pembroke Hall is expected to be a very exciting encounter, as both teams are coming off comfortable victories. Andrade Wright, coach of Denham Town, said his team will be seeking a solid all-round game. "We are going there to play solid defence and at the same time execute our offence, and once we do this then we will win the game," said Wright. "We have good offensive players and we also have a good bench, and so I am expecting my players to deliver for us," he said. Pros and cons Wright added that they are expecting a tough game from their opponents because they have a number of experienced players in their line-up, and they also have a very strong bench. He also expects added advantage from their home court. "We are also playing at home and this should give us the advantage because our supporters will be right behind us throughout the game," Wright said. Deano Hibbert, who has been averaging 19 points per game this season, will lead the Denham Town charge. He should receive solid support from Charles Watson, Cleveland Gizzard and Deveroux Preston. Pembroke Hall's coach, Troy Constantine, is also full of optimism. "We are confident that we can get this victory," said Constantine. "I think as long as my players follow the game plan, then I expect my team to come out to on top." Pembroke Hall will rest their hopes in the hands of the competition's leading scorer and shooting guard, Andrew Bell, who is averaging 25 points per game this season. He is expected to receive good support from Leighton Higgins and Joseph Barrett.
