Jamaica Loses Gonzales Gamble In 4X400m Relay

Jamaica’s chances of getting a medal in the 4X400m relay were dashed a short while ago when the injured Jermaine Gonzales pulled up on the third leg.

Gonzales, a few days ago had said if it was up to him, he would not run in the 4x400m because of a hamstring problem.

Still yet, he was selected for the team which also comprised national 400m champion Dane Hyatt, Riker Hylton and Errol Nolan.

Hyatt was off to a good start and was among the first to hand over the baton.

But less than 100 meters after Gonzales got the baton from second leg runner Ryker Hylton, came trouble for Jamaica.

Gonzales pulled up and had to stop on his first curve.

Gonzales threw the baton to the ground in disappointment.

The race was won by The Bahamas with the United States second, and Russia third.

In the other 4X400m heat, Trinidad and Tobago was first, Great Britain second and Cuba third.

The six teams are through to the final scheduled for tomorrow.

The Jamaicans were seeking to repeat or better the bronze medal performance in last year's IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea.
