Rain stumps play

CASTRIES, St Lucia, (CMC):

Torrential rain ruined the fourth round of matches in the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge, forcing a complete washout of the second day here yesterday.

Not a single ball was bowled as the heavy showers left all three venues waterlogged from early and officials were left with no choice but to abandon play for the day.

Rain has been a constant bother throughout the tournament, also affecting the earlier rounds.

At the Dennery Playing Field, Barbados were five without loss responding to Guyana's 204, while at the Beausejour Stadium the Windward Islands were 56 for one in reply to Jamaica's 177.

At the Gros Islet Playing Field, Trinidad and Tobago finished the opening day on Tuesday on 93 for one, after dismissing the Leeward Islands for 245.

Following the third round of matches which ended on Sunday, defending champions Jamaica and Windward Islands led the standings with 21 points, with Barbados three points behind in third.

Guyana were fourth on 15, T&T were three points back in fifth, with the Leewards in the cellar position on three points.

The fifth and final round starts on Saturday.
