Todd Town secure $100,000 prize

Todd Town captured the 2009 NCB-sponsored Southeast St Elizabeth knockout cricket title with a hard-fought six-wicket win over Tryall.

In the final played in front of over 4,000 spectators at Harper Miller Oval in Neif Mountain, last Sunday, Tryall, led by some disciplined out cricket, took home the $100,000 first prize money.

Electing to bat, Tryall were restricted to 167 for seven off their allotted 35 overs. Allen Powell led the way with 46 and got support from Damion Bryce, who contributed 36.

However, this small total was largely due to the impressive bowling performance of Paul Bromfield, who sent down seven overs while taking 6-47.

In reply, Nicoy Samuels, a National Youth player, struck 47 and received support from Romaine Powell with 31, as Todd Town achieved their target with two overs to spare.

Tryall received $50,000 for their effort.

St Thomas Div 2 kicks off

Action in the St Thomas Football Association Division Two competition kicks off this afternoon with a lone match and dress parade.

The day's activities, which will unfold at Cotton Tree in Port Morant, will get under way at 2 p.m.

In the opening game of the new season, Paul Bogle oppose Ramble. Kick off time is 3 p.m.

Eight teams - Paul Bogle Youth Club, Ramble Youth Club, Heartease Youth Club, Sunrise Youth Club, Seaforth Sports Club - Baptist Alliance, Poinsettia Youth Club and Springville Sports Club - are down to take part in this year's competition.

Bicycle Bash a hit in Portland

Dubbed a 'Celebration of Jamaican Bicycling Culture' last Sunday's Bicycle Bash held at James Bond Beach featured a jam-packed schedule of races and competitions, which rides used to show off their skills.

The day started with the 'Bunny Hop' competition. In this event riders cleared bars similar to those used for high jump in track and field. In the end, Jeff 'Tinga' Crossley prevailed with an amazing jump of 4' 1".

The Rambo Race around Oracabessa was another highlight as riders took the three laps on a 1.5m loop around the town. Christopher McLean set a blistering pace and for the second year in a row topped the overall championship.

The Rambolympics has been a crowd favourite since its debut in 2008 and this year was no disappointment, as it tested the riders' ability to go fast while carrying a number of unwieldy items, such as beer crate, gas cylinder and weed whacker.

Tournament of Kings badminton

Over 100 entries have already been received for this weekend's Tournament of Kings domination tournament.

This tournament, which is singles only, will be played at the Constant Spring Golf Club's Racquet Complex, starts today and ends tomorrow.

Inner-city badminton group, St Jago High and G.C. Foster College have provided the bulk of the entries. All three of these entities are coached by Lisco Jackson. Another large contingent is expected from coach Hoard Ranger, who is based in the Mandeville area.

Defending male open champion, Gareth Henry, is favoured to retain his crown despite stiff opposition expected from Kashif Bernard, whom he defeated in November's All Jamaica Championships.

For the ladies, Henry's sister, Geordine, the current Open female champion, will have her hands full this time around, as Olympian Nigella Saunders has entered this year's renewal.

MultiCare's 'Train the Trainers'

The 2009 MultiCare Sports Programme had a successful Train The Trainers Basketball Clinic on Wednesday.

The clinic, which is staged for physical education (PE) teachers from the 31 MultiCare-assisted schools, focuses on the basic elements of basketball, and incorporates both theoretical and practical aspects of the sport.

An annual clinic, this is staged to update PE teachers on the rules and regulations of the MultiCare Inter-Schools basketball competition slated for April.

The MultiCare Sports Programme is one of three Core Programmes administered by the MultiCare Foundation. The other two are the Visual Arts and the Performing Arts.

Baker United off the mark

Baker United secured their first point of the 2009 INSPORTS/Jacques Road Sunday League Six-a-side football season with a 2-0 upset win over Green Square in last Sunday's action at the Jacques Road Community playing field.

Green Square, one of three teams tied on four points in second place, prior to the weekend's double-header, started the game favourites but three minutes before half-time, Christopher 'Cody' Brown shocked them with a beauty from just outside the area.

Midway into the second half Garfield Hayles' precise pass found the onrushing forward Andre Donaldson, who beat the goalkeeper before tapping the ball into an empty goal.

In the day's other match, Pallington Lane moved atop the standings after edging Darby County 2-1.

After a goalless first half Tyrone 'Wongie' Freckleton of Pallington Lane scored twice in two minutes. Four minutes later, Darby's Dwayne 'Moonie' Barrett pulled one back for the losers.

Rollington Town roll past Eagle Hikers

Rollington Town won the INSPORTS/JN Money Transfer netball rally after drubbing Eagle Hikers PYC 8-3 at the Leila Robinson Court last Sunday.

The league, which is expected to start soon, will offer $40,000 cash prize plus a trophy and medals.

Last to begin on Sunday was the domino competition, which has the same sponsors, but with an exhibition match at the Institute of Sports car park.

A combined team representing sponsors INSPORTS and JN Money Transfer whipped an All Stars Invitational 300-263.

Thirteen domino teams will be competing for top cash prize of $50,000 along with the championship trophy and medals.

Eagle View still unbeaten in CTL domino
