Hy-Performance, UTech score easy victories

 
Hy-Performance and the University of Technology (UTech) recorded impressive victories over the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club, respectively, in the Jamaica Table Tennis Association (JTTA)/ Northwest Development Club League on Tuesday.

Hy-Performance thrashed the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) 3-0, while UTech stopped Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club 3-1.

The teams have now completed their first-round fixtures for Group Two and the win lifted Hy-Performance to the top of the standings with nine points. They are followed by UTech, with seven, Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club on five, and JDF, with three points.

The top-two teams at the end of the return matches, which start next week, will advance to the semi-finals.

In the match between Hy-Performance and the JDF, which was played at Up Park Camp, Robert Hyatt outlasted Levi Hibbert 3-2, national junior player Simon Tomlinson trounced Maurice Salkey 3-0 and another national junior representative, Don-Walker Petinaud, turned back Trevor Kelly 3-1 to seal Hy-Performance's three victories.

National junior player Michael Cai won two matches for UTech against Windalco Kirkvine SC. He tagged George Hyman 3-1 and crushed reigning Manchester parish champion Jermaine Newell 3-0, while another national junior representative, Kareem Flowers, clipped Newell 3-2 for the team's third win.

Carlington Facey overpowered Tyrone Gordon 3-0 to pull one back for Windalco Kirkvine.
