Jardine tops UTech Classic

 
Rory Jardine amassed 38 points to emerge the overall winner at the first staging of the annual University of Technology (UTech) Golf Classic Stableford tournament, which was held at the Caymanas Golf Club last Friday.

Alicia Rose of UTech won the female section for students with five points, while the male category went to her schoolmate Carl Gaynor who ended on 28 points ahead his teammates Lenworth Beckford (23) and Robert Taylor (22).

Women's category

Dawn Hyde captured the women's category with 26 points, while Winston Watson won the men's section with 37 points, followed by Matthew Lee (35) and Winston Searchwell (35).

Former West Indies wicketkeeper Jeffrey Dujon won the men's senior category with 34 points. Stephenson Chang also recorded 34 points, but placed second, while Lloyd Tai took third with 33 points.

Carl Welch, president of the Manchester Golf Club, which is the oldest in the western hemisphere, won the men's super senior section with 37 points. Gary Bailey (35) was second, followed by Gordon Hutchinson (34).

Fifty-two competitors took part in the tournament which began with a shotgun start. The participants were drawn from UTech, University of the West Indies and Northern Caribbean University, as well as professionals and amateurs.
