August Town rediscover sweet taste of victory

August Town finally returned to winning ways yesterday, registering a 3-0 victory over Seba United in Cash Plus Premier League action at the UWI Bowl.

Despite the long-awaited win, August Town, hungry for points to stave off relegation, still remain at the bottom of the league on 26 points.

Mitchily Waul led the charge for August Town, scoring in the first minute of play to the left side of the goal. Aphas Bernard gave August Town their second goal in the 33rd minute from a square that was caught by the goalkeeper, but fell out of his arms inside the goal. Waul delivered again in the 63rd minute from near 25-yards with a powerful kick.

In an interview with The Gleaner following the team's victory, an elated David Laylor, captain of the August Town team, stated that they were determined to win.

"This win is an encouraging move for the players. It will help us to keep the momentum to go forward," Laylor said.

"We told ourselves that we did not have much choice, we had to win and that is exactly what we did today. We came out and fought a hard game."

Too many goals

He added: "We were giving up too many goals in the early rounds of the season, we readjusted the team, it worked so we will just continue to move forward and whichever team we come against we will continue to work hard. We believe that we can still make the top six," he said.

Meanwhile, Seba United remain on 34 points and, according to coach Alrick Henry, they were not fully prepared for the game.

"I think one of the main problems is the attitude of the players. They believe that because they did so well in the first round that they have already won the competition. We have some senior players who speak to the junior players but they do not listen," noted Henry.
