Skittles is back

Portmore-based Meadowvale and The Dip are among the 10 participating teams in the inaugural Henkel-sponsored Federation Cup skittles competition which is scheduled to start on Sunday, September 9.

The Henkel Group has put up $400,000 as sponsorship. The launching will take place at Mystix Sports Bar, Hagley Park Road, starting at 1:00 p.m.

According to Jamaica Skittles Federation president Sam Allen, Henkel will sponsor the league which offers total prize money of $250,000, as well as the singles championship for which $150,000 has been donated. The winner of the singles title will receive $80,000.

Among the participating teams are the recent Wray & Nephew champions Rowe's Strikers and Olympic Strikers, which makes a return to local skittles after a few years absence.

A criteria for all teams is that one established pool player must be included in the final 11. Provision has also been made for female players and mixed doubles.

Matches will be played at Mystix, Bejons Sports Bar in Hughenden Plaza and Chelsea Jerk Centre Sports Bar.

In addition to Rowe's Strikers and the Portmore-based teams, other notable teams entered are Cherry's Strikers, Eastern All-Stars, Dragon and Mystix.
