AFTER THREE weeks of intensive training under the watchful eyes of motor racing legend Peter 'Jacko' Moodie, 14-year-old Dominic Moore will make his debut in the Shifter class at the Palisadoes International Race-way, Kingston, go-kart meet today.

"I have been doing a lot of physical training and practising while learning more about this new kart," the Campion College schoolboy told The Sunday Gleaner yesterday.

"My fastest time in practice is 38.8 seconds and today I am hoping to do a much faster time - if all goes well," Moore said.

The meet is scheduled to begin at noon but prior to the start all drivers will do qualifying in five-minute intervals per class.

This will be done by classes in the order: Junior Sportsman, Junior Can, Rotax Jr, Rotax Max, Rotax Masters, Shifters.

Karts which miss their qualifying sessions will not be allowed to qualify and will start at the back in races gridded by qualifying time or reverse of qualifying time.

MODIFIED ENGINES

In relation to the Shifter class, the Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) announced that more than 70 per cent of the active class members are running modified engines of different configurations (different exhausts, carburettors etc.) and they have decided that the class be run as follows for the remainder of 2006 with immediate effect; exhausts free, block porting free, bore and stroke stock, gearbox ? no reduction of weight of any component, gear ratios stock.

Among the drivers of whom a lot is expected today are Timothy Stewart, Joel Jackson, Martin Anderson, Chad Phillips and the DHL Team which comprises Peter Rae and his nephew Sebastian Rae.

Peter Rae and Dwight Moore of the Worldthron/KIA Team will renew their rivalry in the Rotax Masters class.

An interesting showdown is anticipated in the Junior Sportsman class between Mario Mair, Matthew Williams and Colin Daley.
