Draw adds to August Town's woes

Keisha Hill, Staff Reporter

August Town, sitting squarely at the bottom of the Cash Plus Premier League points standing on 22, face a difficult challenge over the remaining weeks of the competition if they are to avoid relegation following yet another dismal 1-1 draw against St Georges FC at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

"There are many games left to be played in the season. In going forward, we will approach each game one at a time and make the necessary improvements," said the St Andrew team manager, Dwight Morgan.

St Georges, now on 34, opened up the game with a third-minute goal from Dwayne Holmes.

Quick response

Sixty seconds later, August Town replied with a goal from Daniel Shaw.

Despite numerous efforts to score by both teams, the balls flew high and wide over the goalpost in the first half.

Upon the resumption of the second half, it was a battle for supremacy, with St George's applying immense pressure on August Town's defence.

August Town were thrown into a deep abyss in the 69th minute as Jermaine Simpson was given marching orders by referee Carl Tyrell.

"It was definitely a good performance," said Donovan Duckie, coach of St Georges. "We scored an early goal and needed to further consolidate our position, but overall both teams played well."
